Biographie / Biography I'm 39 years old, born on the east coast of America, now living in California. After an undergraduate degree in Mathematics (Yale) and a master's in Sculpture (University of Pennsylvania), for many years I combined software consulting with a slowly developing combination of art, math, science and technology, and now that synthesis is my full-time occupation. Description This is the organic skeleton of a Moebius strip, flayed out and laid bare by algorithmic means. Or did it grow? I came to it by way of the foam-bubbles of Voronoi cells in 3-space, reducing the twisted network to its linear edges, and at the same time adding structural bone throughout. The result is poised between sublime and disgusting: this geometry lives exactly halfway betwen crawling mildew and pure mathematics. Its highly structured depths capture and release lightlike the bubbles they arise from, defying yet enticing the seeing eye. Commentaire / Statement I'm an explorer of life in 3 dimensions, seeing beautiful events taking place in that continuum. I'm often asked whether my designs originate in logic or intuition, and the answer must be 'both': my intuition is strongly bound to order and symmetry. CAD/CAM is a young medium, but because of it we are standing at the Gutenberg moment for sculpture: from here on it will be digital, which is to say immortal. I am seeding the noosphere with these designs, sounding a timeless note of purity and symmetry at this pivotal moment in the history of my art. |
