Biographie / Biography I have a degree in Physics and at the same time I have always been fond of Abstract Art ( for family DNA ) and in particular of sculpture, which I realize using traditional tools, after drawing the shapes on paper. When IBM introduced the first personal computer which gave the possibility to create coloured images, I began to create Computer Art, as computer allowed to join my scientific knowledge and my passion for Art, . In the far 1985, I already created software able to give origin to different types of Computer Art abstract images in movement and in endless change (see " Leonardo " Journal of the International Society for the Art, Sciences and Thecnology della MIT Press USA, the second number of the year 1986 ). The images I now create using a computer are used as background for musical and poetical events. As soon as the personal computer has given me the possibility to projects sculptures, I have begun to project virtual sculptures, thanks to the means which allows fancy to create works of art which it is difficult or impossible to realize with traditional tools. In Computer Art, I prefer not to fossilize in one style only, but I am always looking for new shapes and new expressive languages. Commentaire / Statement The sm-Colour Dream I am sending for the 4th DIGITAL SCULPTURE COMPETITION ( category: VRW ) is a coloured glass sphere with inner hollows. In this sculpture, light is the protagonist with its refractions and with its reflections. It is impossible to make my sculpture real because the present 3D prints with FDM ( Fused Deposition Modelling ) do not use glass. I am sending it to you in VRML because, besides making the most of the inner structure with light colours and without light-spots, it has the quality of interactivity. That allows the visitors of Intersculpt exibition to rotate my "Colour Dream" using the mouse in all directions in order to look at all the numberless images coming out. The original file was first created by me long ago in 3D Studio version 2 (now 3D Studio Max ) and later on slightly modified with other software. This explains the lightness of the file. It can be visualized using Internet Explorer or Mozilla with plug-in Cortona; to make it appear on the screen , click on FIT. If in the future, 3D stamps should be able to use coloured glass with nuances, the colour-effects might be obtined with a volumetric texture instead of the light spots I have used. I think my sculpture goes beyond the traditional sculptures because it gives the possibility of endless visions, wich is not possible with traditional sculptures. |
