Biographie / Biography I was a civil engineer and gained a masters degree from Imperial College in London, before studying Fine Art (sculpture) at Manchester Metropolitan University School of Art (I am now firmly of the opinion that all students should spend a year on an arts foundation course before beginning any course, regardless of discipline) I have had a sculture exhibited at MICAD, following my 3rd place in the Intersculpt 2001 competition I have never had any other work exhibited, and I have certainly never sold anything! Description My application is not just the above model(s), but the web site www.liferily.net. I hope this will become clear if you visit the site There is a lot of work still to do, and the graphics are rather clunky. I think it’s important the site be a fully functional shopping cart that can take real payments, but unfortunately the PayPal payment functionality is not active yet. You never know, there might be someone out there wanting to purchase a liferily artwork! Commentaire / Statement 3D modelling has progressed at a phenomenal rate. Just a few short years ago printing a virtual 3D Studio model was unheard of, yet now 3D printing bureau abound. The range of materials grows - rigid and brittle through to flexible rubber like compounds. Some companies are even offering to print colour models, which is tremendously exciting. It still brings a smile to my face when I think back to first being told it was possible to produce a physical three-dimensional form from a virtual model, and then look at the services available today, and likely tomorrow At heart, I believe myself to be a traditional sculptor - handling tactile materials, responding to form & texture will always be where I feel most comfortable. However, being comfortable is not an ambition for any artist… On first being introduced to virtual 3D modelling I instantly realised that the real challenges for a contemporary sculptor today lie in the virtual world The discourse between the object and modeler is as real for a sculptor working with 3d Studio as it for a sculptor working with stone. However, in the virtual realm the possibilities for a sculptor multiply – material dynamics, weight & scale are arbitrary - some virtual sculptors include time as a modelling property E-commerce, file sharing & Friend’s reunited are phenomenal internet success stories. I hope, through this web site to contextualize my virtual practice by stepping out into the virtual world at large… The internet is now a marketplace and e-commerce is deep-rooted for evermore. Likewise, Liferily Art Mart will sell virtual artworks globally via the internet An artwork may comprise several parts. Each individual collector will only be permitted one purchase for any one artwork, so to complete a single work several collectors will need to co-operate with each other - contact details for other artwork collectors will be available on the site. Artwork parts are sold in a range of sizes to suit all budgets, and a range of colour options will be available shortly No so long from now 3D printers will be as ubiquitous as 2D printers are today, so in anticipation each artwork part may also be purchased, at a discount, as a file for self-printing… Of course, one expects collectors to print one copy only, and heaven forbid if collectors were to share files rather than purchase This site is still under development.
